SMooCH 2019 Performers

Like fellow legendary Great American John Waters, Redd Kross have devoted their career to making subversive entertainment in a high pop celebrity style, reintroducing in their especially golden late ’80s/early-’90s period such forbidden classic-rock tropes as melodies, harmonies, ripping musicianship, and primary colors-stuff that had (largely) been ditched in the underground rock’s post-punk, No Wave, hardcore, and sensitive-egghead scenes.

DeVotchKa is a four-piece multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble that fuses Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, Mariachi music with American punk and folk roots. They take their name from the Russian word devotchka (де́вочка), meaning "girl".

There are some bands that are perfectly suited for listening to in the car, letting them soundtrack long, aimless drives, with their chugging rhythms and triumphant guitars helping to keep you company. Dude York not only wonderfully evoke some of these bands, but they have established themselves as being worthy of consideration in the road trip music canon. Being such a tight three-piece, though, and with such indelible songs, it should come as no surprise that they also tear the roof off of whatever venue they're playing at live.
